Video Analysis

The drop-back defense is growing in popularity in the NBA. It’s a conservative scheme that prevents drives to the basket while (in theory) contesting the three. Basically, it’s the scheme that the Utah Jazz and other teams play against the Houston Rockets Moreyball attack of all layups and threes. Some people like Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are actually very good at hitting midrange jumpers, so they shouldn’t mind this defense. Quinn Cook is another fellow who can hit a jumper.

Other Thoughts

The whole Carmelo Anthony divorce from Houston is just perplexing. Not that they will split; that match has always seemed poor. But what has HOU learned this season about on-court Melo that wasn’t known before signing him? And by all public accounts, he’s had a good attitude... so why the dramatic turn?

Definitely approve of the Jimmy Butler trade from the point of view of league intrigue. Sixers get a great small shooter and leader... feels likely that he’ll mesh well with the other fiery personalities. Minnesota gets two good players and a Butler-ectomy.
