Durant and Lee are Warriors Wonders in loss to Mavs

New, comments

The shorthanded Dubs received strong contributions from these two hoopers, but it wasn’t enough against the gritty Mavs in Dallas.

NBA: Golden State Warriors at Dallas Mavericks Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Durant came out swinging against the Dallas Mavericks, despite not having a ton of support from his fellow starters. The effort was unsuccessful in the 112-109 defeat, but he didn’t lack for aggression.

Clearly, his matchup with the man he replaced in the Golden Empire, Harrison Barnes, was a little extra motivation. The two Olympians went at it the whole night. Unfortunately, Durant couldn’t deliver the final dagger that would take Dallas down for good. Still, he was his usual engaged self and carried the Warriors’ scoring load the best he could.

Golden Sidekick nominee: Damion Lee

Steph Curry’s brother-in-law came off the bench smoking hot, doing his best Curry impersonation.

He finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, +18 plus/minus (which led the whole team), and knocked down 3-of-5 three-pointers. His play brought a special enthusiasm, and it looked like the team was on the verge of weaponizing some joy during his minutes.

Honorable Mention: Quinn Cook is a steady cat! He cruised to another 15 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebs in his 22 minutes off of the bench. He shot 6-of-10 from the field and joined Curry’s family member in nailing 3-of-5 of his shots from distance. This dude just keeps on putting up consistent, solid box scores, no matter whether he starts or is a reserve. Kudos!
