Did Kevin Durant hint that he will stay in the Bay?

New, comments

KD professed his love for the Bay and visions of statues in front of the Chase Center in a recent interview, implicating a potential future with the Warriors.

Speculation and scrutiny of Kevin Durant’s impending free agency has taken more turns than a ride on Disneyland’s Space Mountain, and another twist emerged this week that could support the possibility that KD may re-sign with the Golden State Warriors.

In an interview with Chris. B. Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, Kevin Durant made some confident statements about having his jersey retired as a Warrior and getting statues in front of the Chase Center:

I know for a fact we’ll all get our jerseys retired, we’ll probably all get our statues in front of the Chase Center.

While these quotes don’t necessarily prove that KD will re-sign with the Warriors, does it make sense that Kevin Durant would have a statue in front of the Chase Center if he never actually plays in the Chase Center?

In an interview on 95.7 The Game, Haynes said that Warriors fans should be encouraged:

But not everyone is convinced that KD’s comments about statues and jersey retirements means he will stay:

From his brother’s instagram comment about “we outta here” to lip-readers convinced that KD said, “that’s why I’m out” after his spat with Draymond, several armchair prognosticators have predicted that Kevin Durant will leave the Warriors.

But when you hear Durant talking about how all the good and bad times with the Warriors will be immortalized and remembered, he includes his conflict with Draymond as something that is in the past, suggesting that he truly has moved on from it and that it might not be something that affects his decision.

Supporting the idea that KD might re-sign with the Warriors, ESPN polled a forecast panel of experts about where they predict Durant will end up next season and the Warriors received the highest number of first place votes and highest percentage of votes, followed by the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers in descending order.

This soap opera will almost certainly have a few more dramatic moments as the rest of the season unfolds, but watch the video and determine for yourself if KD’s comments give any clues about his future as a member of the Warriors.
