Kevon Looney will make his ninth straight start when the Golden State Warriors face the Dallas Mavericks tonight — his 11 starts this season will already be a career-high and we’re not even through December.
Looney’s starts are just one of multiple statistical career-highs for the former 30th pick, but the Warriors reportedly expect even more from their big man.
According to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area, Warriors coach Steve Kerr is encouraging Looney to shoot more threes.
“He’s got a lot more game than people know of, and we see it in practice,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr told Damon Bruce on Thursday night on 95.7 The Game. ”Kevon is such a conscientious player that he’s normally deferring to the stars. But we’re gonna ask him to do more. We think he can make 3s.
”He took a corner 3 last night that didn’t go in, but it was a good shot and one he made in practice. I think if he continues to play and gain confidence, I think you’re gonna see Kevon starting to show more offense.”
With DeMarcus Cousins coming back at some point, this is as good a time as any for Looney to start proving his value from beyond the arc.
