On the marquee game on Christmas day, the Golden State Warriors met the Los Angeles Lakers for the first time in the LeBron James era. It . . . uhh . . . didn’t go too well.

James only played 21 minutes due to a groin injury that he suffered during the game, but the Lakers controlled the game from tip until final buzzer. The Lakers led by seven after the first quarter, by 15 at the half, by nine after three, and by 26 when all was said and done. 127-101 was the final score in the beginning of the new rivalry.

For the Warriors, only two players could get it going: Kevin Durant had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, while shooting 5-13 from the field, and Andre Iguodala exploded off the bench for 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, on 9-12 shooting.

Otherwise, it was a serious struggle. Steph Curry had 15 points while being held to 5-17 shooting, and Klay Thompson only mustered 5 points on 2-7 shooting. Draymond Green had 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while turning the ball over four times and fouling out.

The Warriors will get a chance for revenge on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in LA.

Here’s hoping everyone has a Merry Christmas, if you celebrate it, and a wonderful day regardless. And here’s hoping you’re all happy and healthy and safe, and please drive safely tonight.

Happy Holidays from the entire Golden State of Mind community!
