Explain One Play: KD 3 gets waved off

Kevin Durant almost brought GSW all the way back against POR, capping his 50-point performance with this three-pointer which was waved off when he was called out of bounds. Watch how Durant got open with a tough Stephen Curry screen and distractions by Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.  From the Warriors-Trailblazers game on Feb 14, 2018.

The Golden State Warriors roared back from a sleepy start, but fell late to the Portland Trail Blazers, 123-117. Kevin Durant went absolutely supernova in Portland, terrorizing Rip City for drafting Greg Oden over him many moons ago. He had 50 points on 17-of-27 shooting from the field, and added 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

We’ve had a lot of weird things happen on last second Durant shots, haven’t we?

  • Durant stepping on Richard Jefferson foot Xmas 2016 vs Cleveland
  • Durant enrages Draymond Green by isolating against the Grizzlies in an OT meltdown in Jan 2017
  • Durant hits The Shot in Game 3, which makes all other shots on this list irrelevant
  • Durant just late on 17-18 opening night game winner vs Houston
  • Durant steps out of bounds on possible game-resurrection 3 tonight vs Portland.

Just keep in mind that without Durant’s 50 points, we aren’t even talking about his missed open midrange J off a sweet stepback and then the waved-off 3.

Here’s a short video looking at the play design of the sideline out of bounds play that got Durant is (almost legal) three-pointer. Watch how Durant got open with a tough Stephen Curry screen and distractions by Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
