The magnitude of Stephen Curry’s MCL injury made the Golden State Warriors’ 106-94 victory over the Atlanta Hawks irrelevant and hollow.
But that doesn’t diminish his performance on the court.
Before leaving the game with the knee injury that he sustained after his collision with JaVale McGee, Curry scored 29 points and snagged 7 boards in 25 minutes of action.
If you only look at the box score, it’s easy to assume that Curry and the Warriors had a ‘good game’. In the game’s first half, it was anything but. In fact, the Warriors’ offense was a hot mess glazed in copious amounts of dumpster juice.
Curry started the game shooting 1 for 6 and missing four of his eight attempted 3’s. The Warriors as a team shot 5-for-22 in the first quarter, and they struggled for 16 points. Curry would warm up in the second quarter but the Hawks eventually took a 51-43 lead with them in halftime.
Then, as usual, the third quarter happened. Nick Young was the catalyst of the third quarter surge by splashing a couple of his six threes for the night. Young remained aggressive offensively throughout the second half and steadied the offense after Curry left with his injury. Swaggy’s line? 24 points off of 9-for-17 shooting and 6-for-11 from deep.
Quinn Cook continued to prove why he deserves a permanent roster spot with the team. Cook finished his night with 13 points 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Cook has been impressive in his extended stay with the squad. The Santa Cruz stand out’s game continues to make room for him with the Warriors and in the league. With Curry’s injury, his spot on the roster is imminent.
For their second half onslaughts, Curry (‘Chef), Cook (‘Sous Chef) and Young (‘Microwave) are the Warrior Wonders against the Hawks last night.
