Pat McCaw leaves on stretcher after scary fall

In a frightening moment, the Warriors second-year wing was helped off the court.

There have been myriad injuries for the Golden State Warriors this year. Each time one happens, it feels like a bummer for the team and how it hurts their talent level.

This time, the team was the last thing that mattered. In a very scary moment Saturday night, Patrick McCaw rose up for a dunk, and was slightly undercut by Vince Carter, who was trying to get out of the play. McCaw got upended, and landed awkwardly on his back.

The trainers and Steve Kerr quickly came out, and, after spending many minutes with him, decided to take him out on a stretcher. While McCaw was yelling in pain, he made no effort to try and get to his feet. That said, it appears that he was moving his arms and legs, which is always a good sign.

He was stabilized on a stretcher, with a neck brace, and about 10 minutes after the fall, he was wheeled off the court. In a rare moment that I’ve never seen before, both teams huddled on the court with their arms around each other before the game resumed. And, prior to McCaw leaving, he was consoled by a distraught-looking Carter.

It’s impossible to know the severity of the injury at this team. A stretcher and neck brace are terrifying, but often used as a precaution. We’ll have to wait and see.

We’ll keep you updated as soon as there is more information.
