I've noticed something about following sports that I'm wondering if it rings true to anyone else.
It seems to me that baseball fans know more about their favorite teams and players for events that happened BEFORE they became a fan than basketball fans. That's certainly true for me... I can tell you a lot about the SF Giants in the 1960's and probably a fair amount about the NY Giants. I can't tell you much about the Warriors before my time except for Wilt's 100 point game. Granted, my 45 year Warriors fanship covers all their championships.
McCovey Chronicles seems to cover and discuss the past more readily than Golden State of Mind. That's partially about what the host writes about, but it also seems true about the commenters too. No one ever comments or asks about days they didn't witness at GSOM.
It may be that this is one of those things about baseball, maybe because it enjoyed a long period of being the only national sport. Maybe because the common stats were considered valid ways to compare players across the generations, at least pre-PED.
What does everybody think about this?
