It only took a few minutes of action for the Golden State Warriors to get some bad news. Stephen Curry sprained his ankle just minutes into Thursday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.
After taking a timeout, Curry stayed in the game long enough to shoot his free throws, which would allow him to return later, if he were able to. Unfortunately, he is not able to, as the team officially declared him out for the rest of the game.
Stephen Curry update: will not return to today's game after retweaking his right ankle.— Rosalyn Gold-Onwude (@ROSGO21) March 9, 2018
Since the Warriors are not fighting for their playoff lives, it makes sense for them to be conservative with injuries. So it remains to be seen whether he is being held out as a precaution, or because he can’t safely play.
All that matters is that Curry is healthy when the playoffs start. So don’t hold your breath hoping to see him play Friday night in a showdown with Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers.
We’ll keep you updated as news comes out.
