At the WNBA Draft, Azura Stevens was congratulated by Kevin Durant

One dominant forward congratulated another on a very special day.

Thursday was a pretty special day for Azura Stevens. Stevens, a dominant forward for UConn, was selected sixth overall in the WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings.

Shortly after being drafted, she was presented with a tablet that had a congratulatory video on it. The person in the video? Golden State Warriors’ superstar Kevin Durant, Stevens’ favorite player.

Check it out:

“Azura, whaddup,” Durant said in the video. “Congratulations, I’m so proud of you. Good luck in your WNBA career, I’ll be watching. Hopefully I’ll get to check a game out soon. Much love.”

It was an awesome move by Durant, and hopefully open support from NBA players will help the popularity of the WNBA increase. It certainly deserves that.

Of course, being congratulated by Durant is nothing compared to being drafted sixth overall in the WNBA Draft, but why not both? Safe to say that was a day that Stevens will never, ever forget.
