Saturday standings update

If the season were to end today, the Warriors would match up with the Thunder in the first round.

The playoff race in the Western Conference is coming down to the wire. There are just a few days left in the season, but there’s still very little clarity in the standings. The Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors are locked into the first and second seeds, respectively, while the Portland Trail Blazers have a moderately comfortable two-game cushion for the third seed.

After that, it’s a jumble. Check it out:

Western Conference Standings as of 4/7

Seed Team Record Games Back
Seed Team Record Games Back
4 Utah 46-33 -
5 New Orleans 45-34 1
6 San Antonio 45-34 1
7 Oklahoma City 45-34 1
8 Minnesota 45-35 1.5
9 Denver 44-35 2
10 LA Clippers 45-37 4

As you can see, only one game separates the fifth seed, and the first team out. That’s just crazy.

Currently, the Warriors are slated to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the opening round, which would be a lot of fun. But things are about to change, with a busy slate of games today.

The Warriors will play a role in the standings, as they host the New Orleans Pelicans this evening. The Thunder will square off in a dangerous game against the Rockets, while the Blazers and San Antonio Spurs will meet. Finally, the two teams on the outside looking in will face off, as the Los Angeles Clippers host the Denver Nuggets.

It’s excitement and madness everywhere. And it’s must see TV.
