The Western Conference is about to get stronger. The 2018 NBA Draft lottery took place Tuesday night, and set the order for a draft that is incredibly strong.
The Phoenix Suns drew the top pick, and will get to choose between players like Luka Doncic, DeAndre Ayton, and Marvin Bagley III. Gathering the second pick was the Sacramento Kings, which means that the top two picks in the draft will be playing in the Pacific Division, facing the Golden State Warriors four times a year.
All in all, it was a huge win for the West. Not only did they get the top two picks, but four of the top five, as the next three picks will go to the Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, and Dallas Mavericks, respectively.
Of course, all four of those Western Conference teams are bad, and don’t figure to challenge teams like the Warriors and Houston Rockets anytime soon. But players like Doncic and Ayton could very well usher in a new era before too long, and be the core pieces for contending teams in the future.
The NBA Draft doesn’t take place until June 21, so there’s more than a month left for rumors and reports and mock drafts. But one thing is sure: Golden State will play against some awesome rookies next year.
