What’s better than toppling the Houston Rockets in a grueling seven-game series for Western Conference supremacy?
Well, if you are Ayesha Curry then it’s building a restaurant in the city after watching her husband’s Golden State Warriors clinch the fourth consecutive Western Conference Championship.
Ayesha, wife of Stephen Curry, along with Chef Michael Mina, will open the third location of her International Smoke restaurant in Houston’s CityCentre in early July.
Inspired by Curry’s and Mina’s travels and individual heritages, International Smoke is an infusion of global approaches to grilling and smoke to create flavorful dishes from around the world.
Curry and Mina were in Houston during the Western Conference Finals to get a glimpse of restaurant’s progress and to host a Pop Up event.
When asked why they chose Houston, Mina pointed to the diversity of the city as the reason.
“We knew targeted locations where we wanted to go, markets we wanted to be in. Definitely was the diversity of the people that live here, because that’s what this menu is all about.” Mina explained in an interview with Eric Sandler of Culture Map Houston. “The concept of the restaurant is based off that. Obviously, knowing that it’s a market we wanted to be in. We have other restaurants in a lot of cities. With International Smoke, it’s been really fun to say, what cities do we want to go to?”
International Smoke currently has restaurants in San Francisco and Honolulu.
