Last week Rick Welts, president and COO of the Golden State Warriors, was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame. It was a tremendous and very well-deserved honor for a man who has impacted the game in so many different ways.
This week, the team is giving fans a glimpse of what the night was like for Welts. In the latest Warriors All-Access video from the team’s YouTube page, fans can see a behind-the-scenes view of a very special night. It features prominent NBA people mingling, excerpts from Welts’ speech, and some special words from former NBA commissioner David Stern. Check it out:
In addition to being president and COO of one of the most successful teams in NBA history, Welts was instrumental in many other key moments in NBA history, including the marketing of the Dream Team, the invention of All-Star Saturday, and the creation of the WNBA.
Perhaps most importantly, he has helped break down barriers by becoming the first openly gay executive in NBA history.
He’s spent his entire adult life working in basketball, and his impact is enormous.
