With eight games left in the season, Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is sitting on 14 technical fouls. If he gets two more, he’ll be suspended for a game, without pay.

The race is on. Will he make it?

Now, admittedly, this isn’t a huge story. Green has played in 46 of the team’s last 47 games, meaning they’re probably considering giving him a rest day before the playoffs begin anyway. If he gets there through a suspension . . . well, that’s a bummer for his bank account, but not a huge difference-maker for the team.

On the other hand, the Warriors are only a half game ahead of the Denver Nuggets in the West, and they’re a half game behind the Toronto Raptors. The next eight games aren’t nearly as important as the playoffs, but there’s still home court advantage to play for.

Knowing Green, it seems unlikely that he’ll get his 16th tech, but getting a 15th one is well within the realm of probability.

As Anthony Slater of The Athletic pointed out, Green picked up his 15th technical foul last year in early March. He never got another.

Slater also revealed that Steve Kerr is not worried about the issue, quoting the Warriors coach as saying, “Last year he went to 15 and stopped. He knows what he’s doing.”

Still, if you’re looking for late season story lines, it’s worth keeping your eye on Draymond vs. the T’s.

As a reminder, the technical foul count does not carry over into the postseason. Once the playoffs begin, Green will go back to having zero techs, with a limit of seven technicals before a suspension.
