Evans being recalled comes right as the team announced that Klay Thompson and Kevon Looney will miss Tuesday’s game against the Boston Celtics, which means there’s a chance Evans is active.
On the year, the 28th overall pick has struggled to find his footing at the NBA level. He’s played only 99 minutes on the season, and is averaging just 0.6 points, 0.4 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game. He’s only played three times since the start of the new year.
However, Evans has shown some flashes with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League. The six-foot-six guard is averaging 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game in 20 games with Santa Cruz.
Fans have been quick to sour on Evans for not being the NBA-ready player that Bob Myers was hoping for, but those expectations were never particularly realistic.
