Golden State Warriors assistant coach Jarron Collins has interviewed with the Memphis Grizzlies regarding their open head coaching position. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.
Golden State Warriors assistant Jarron Collins interviewed for the Memphis Grizzlies head coaching job today, sources told ESPN.

It is no surprise that the Grizzlies gave Collins an interview. He is a highly respected person in NBA circles, for his knowledge, his demeanor, his former days as an NBA player, and his experience in the Warriors system. It’s also not his first coaching interview, as he was in the running for the Atlanta Hawks gig a year ago, before Lloyd Pierce was hired.
Collins is wrapping up his fourth year as an assistant coach. He joined the Warriors in 2014 when Steve Kerr came aboard, but as a player development coach. He was promoted to assistant coach a year later, when Alvin Gentry took the New Orleans Pelicans head job.
Two of Kerr’s assistants - Gentry and Luke Walton - have now gone on to have head coaching jobs. It wouldn’t be surprising if Collins - or Mike Brown - made it three.
