Warriors vs. Hornets: The Las Vegas festivities begin!

Las Vegas Summer League is officially here!

The regular season and postseason may be over, but one of the NBA’s marquee events is just getting started. It’s the Las Vegas Summer League, which officially kicked off this morning.

And it’s time for the Warriors first game. They play the Charlotte Hornets at 6:00 p.m. PT on NBA TV.

There’s a lot to watch for for the Warriors, though it’s worth noting that Damian Jones will not be playing. Jones - about to enter his fourth NBA season - played in the California Classic Summer League on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. But the Warriors never intended to have him play in Vegas.

However, the Alen Smailagic show continues! Smailagic - an 18-year old who the Warriors hid in the G League this year before drafting in the second round - has been a highlight machine this July.

He’ll be joined on the roster by fellow 2019 draft picks Jordan Poole and Eric Paschall, as well as undrafted rookie Ky Bowman (signed to a two-way), and last year’s first round selection, Jacob Evans III.

However, the biggest Summer League news this evening doesn’t involve the Warriors. There are two courts in Vegas, in the same building, so there are usually two games being played at the same time.

The Warriors tip off at 6:00, but just 30 minutes later the New Orleans Pelicans take on the New York Knicks, in a matchup between college teammates RJ Barrett and, yes, this summer’s biggest draw, Zion Williamson.

So if you want to peek over at ESPN every now and again, I won’t blame you.
