Hey y’all!
I’m Sie (pronounced like “Sea”), one of the new Community Editors here at Golden State of Mind! I’m a Bay Area sports fan (meaning I’m mostly a Sharks fan, a more recent Warriors fan and the most casual of a Giants fan, which I’ve heard is not the usual configuration) living in Michigan (also unusual, apparently).
I’ll be one of the new voices on the site, mostly getting to know you, the readers, and getting to share in this space together as fans. I know Warriors fans have opinions — I’m here to get us talking about them.
Of course, I’m getting started in not only a rare moment for sports, but a rare moment of human history. With public gathering bans going into effect across the country, sports are on pause and content is difficult to come by.
For me, though, that’s an opportunity. Like I said, I’m here for you, the fans, as much as I’m here for the team. Let’s get to know each other as a community of fans, whether this is your first time or 5000th time reading the site (trust me, I also have been lurking here forever).
My question for y’all today starts with a little bit of background on me: I’ve worked twice as a Stylist and if I were to get stuck with a retail job forever, I wouldn’t mind for it to be fashion retail. Because of this, I have a particular eye when it comes to my sports merchandise. Sure, I have my fair share of shirseys, but I’ve also got some more hand-picked items that I will probably never get rid of. Most of them are Warriors items, honestly.
I won’t go through my entire closet (even I avoid that when I can) but I have a clear favorite that I can brag about.
First though, I want to show my runner-up. Like I mentioned, I live in Michigan, so Warriors fans aren’t super common — although being a recent dynasty obviously works in their favor a bit. Still, a few years ago, a local Rue21 was made to clearance a large amount of Warriors apparel (due to the product not moving, I’m assuming based on the insane prices) and I made out like a thief. My favorite piece of the day is still probably this Warriors baseball-style jersey:
It turns out the crossover of different sports in merchandise sets off something in my brain, because my real and true prized possession is this Starter hockey jersey, with the Warriors’ colors and logo:
Look at her. She’s stunning.
Someone once said to me that the hockey jersey is the ultimate streetwear jersey and I’d have a hard time finding an argument to the contrary. Plus, the primary jersey color being white (unlike the Sharks/Warriors mash-up jerseys I also own) makes this a timeless and versatile piece: pair it with light wash straight-leg jeans for an 80s/90s feel or black skinny jeans for a more modern look. Under an over-sized denim jacket, or over a fitted sweatshirt, the options are all stellar for a hockey jersey and the Warriors theme is a unique twist.
This jersey is the look for a #BayAreaUnite game in either arena. I’m obsessed with it.
Now it’s your turn! The Warriors being good means there’s been a steady outpouring of streetwear in recent years. Show us your favorite piece, whether it’s a Curry jersey, a 90s warm up jacket or your lucky snapback.
Let’s see how you show off in the comments below!
