JaVale McGee is no longer a member of the Golden State Warriors. He’s taken his talents to the Los Angeles Lakers for the last two seasons, leaving Warriors fans with only memories.
Those memories are almost unanimously positive. The highlight blocks and alley-oops. The two championships in as many seasons. The lovable nature that endeared him to fans and teammates alike. The electric smile. The philanthropy in the community.
But one of those memories is a little more bizarre: His beef with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.
McGee and Shaq had a long-standing mini-feud when McGee first joined the Warriors, and Golden State quickly found themselves in the middle of it, making public statements and even contacting O’Neal’s employer.
SB Nation’s video team, which has a spectacular series titled Beef History, tackled the 7-foot feud perfectly.
Check it out:
I’d forgotten just how serious that beef got, and how many Warriors stood up for McGee.
What a weird situation.
