According to a report by The Athletic’s Golden State Warriors beat writer Anthony Slater, forward Andre Iguodala is out for the team’s game on Sunday with left hip soreness. Slater reported on Saturday that Iguodala was questionable for tonight’s game. Iguodala injured his hip when he slipped on a wet spot in the second half of Thursday’s 115-113 victory over the Clippers.

With Iguodala out, head coach Steve Kerr will likely give a more expanded role to backup wings Otto Porter Jr. and Moses Moody, who have both played well in their limited minutes this year.

After his fall, Iguodala limped gingerly for the next couple of sequences before he was removed from the game and went back into the locker room. However, he returned to the court in time for the fourth quarter to help Golden State close out the victory. Iguodala played nearly 10 minutes after his fall but took zero shots and finished the quarter with zero points, two rebounds, one assist, and one turnover.

The Warriors brought Iguodala back to the franchise this offseason for a one-year veteran minimum contract. Iguodala had only played for the Miami Heat since the Warriors traded him after the 2018-19 season to create the cap space to acquire D’Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade. In his two seasons away from Golden State, Iggy averaged just 4.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 20.9 minutes per game on .396/.323/.585 shooting.

While it’s still early in the 2021-22 NBA season, Iguodala has looked rejuvenated in his return to the Warriors. Despite approaching 38, Iguodala has been one of the Warriors first players off their bench in the first two games of the season and is averaging 8.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game on .667/.400/1.000 shooting. But, of course, given his age, there are legitimate concerns that he will be unable to handle the wear and tear of an entire NBA season without some load management.
