Warriors assign Moses Moody to the G League

The Warriors’ second lottery pick is taking his talents to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

In a completely unsurprising move, the Golden State Warriors assigned first-round pick Moses Moody to the Santa Cruz Warriors of the G League.

Moody has played just ten minutes in three brief appearances with the Warriors this year, logging two assists and two rebounds and making one of his three shots. With Santa Cruz kicking off their preseason against the Ciudad de Mexico Capitanes, it’s a chance for Moody to get more playing time than he would in SF and work on his game.

It’s a fairly common move for first-rounders, pioneered by the Warriors when they made Patrick O’Bryant the first lottery pick ever sent to the then-D League in 2006. It also doesn’t preclude Moody returning to the big team whenever he’s needed, which could be as early as Saturday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Jonathan Kuminga may also make his regular season debut for the Warriors Saturday night, which will be a “game-day decision”, according to Steve Kerr. The Dubs will definitely see a lot of the player taken one spot ahead of Kuminga, Josh Giddey, who had seven points and nine rebounds against the Warriors on Tuesday night.

Given the need for healthy wings, we might not see huge minutes for Moody in the G League preseason, but Santa Cruz is going to need him when the regular season kicks off against their arch rivals, the Stockton Kings.
