Shayne's Stray Warriors Notes #2: Vs Rockets

11/7/21

Vs Rockets

The Warriors used another electrifying H2 to pull away for a victory and this time versus the young and exciting Houston Rockets. The Dubs won the assist battle 32-16 and the three-point battle 15-10. Another game where the Warriors utilized their whole squad and played a fast pace.

ROCKETS NOTES:

- Jae’Sean Tate led the team in scoring with 21 points along with 10 rebounds. He hit a couple threes and shot 63.6 FG% showcasing his efficiency tonight. Tate is a unique player with a 6’5 bulky forward who can also score at all three levels. I believe he will be a part of the Rockets future core moving forward.

- Jalen Green’s season has been defined by one 30 bomb and then followed with a 10-point game. And the trend seems to have continued. He finished with 9 points on 12 FGA in 30 MP. He did have one monstrous throwdown on a fast break but besides that was not that effective. Our commentators pointed out how the ball stalls when it gets in his hands and that is something he will surely figure out soon enough. His scoring ability is experienced for his age though, seemingly from that additional G-League exposure last season.

- KPJ had 11 points on 3-9 FGA and left the game during H2 due to a thigh contusion.

- Christian Wood was scoreless in H1 and finished the game with a measly 4 points. He only played 24 MP and just seemed disinterested and passive when in. He was averaging 19 PPG coming into tonight’s matchup, so it was odd to see him not attack this matchup with more ferocity.

- Daniel Theis, their starting center, continued his good season with a 14/5/2 hitting both his three-pointers and 5-7 FGA.

- The Rockets used 7 guys off their bench, even with Eric Gordon out. Alperen Sengun showcased his advanced post moves for his age finishing with 12 points and 5 rebounds.

- Josh Christopher, David Nwaba, KJ, Armoni Brooks, and Usman Garuba all played minutes with minimal impact. They are an interesting team and being the 6th youngest roster in the league, they have a bright future ahead.

DUBS NOTES:

- Jordan Poole led the team in scoring again with 25/4/5 hitting 7-13 FGA. This was his 3rd straight 25+ point game and he also attempted a season-high 9 FTA. This was after Iggy was egging him on to attack the rim and get to the line more. Poole continues to be a much-improved player in his 3rd season, and he is beginning to showcase future all-star potential at this point.

- Stephen Curry got to rest during Q4 and still finished with an efficient 20 points on 8-16 FGA. Curry is still getting used to not playing the whole first quarter which seems to have taken some of his rhythm away. He will adapt over time.

- Andrew Wiggins had another quiet 16 points. And I mean quiet in a good way. You look up and realize he just knows how to get 15+ every night. He also continues to play great defense this time matched up against Jalen.

- Draymond’s line was 6/8/9 with a steal and block.

- And Looney finished with 3 points and 3 boards in his 16 MP.

- The Dubs went deep into their bench using 8 different guys. Otto led the bench in scoring with 15 points and 9 rebounds on 5-7 3PM. He hit a multitude of threes and showcases an improvement in bench shooting for the Dubs.

- GPII had another highlight filled game with his dad in attendance finishing with 10/3/3 and 4 steals. He also had another alley-oop finish that brought the crowd on their feet.

- Bjelica had 9 points hitting 3-4 3PA. He was passing well finding cutters at the top of the key, even overpassing at points. He continues to fill his role on this team perfectly.

- Damion Lee had one of his quietest games of the year with only 4 points on 5 FGA.

- JTA got some good run tonight with 20 MP and 8 points.

- And finally, Moody made a couple buckets in the extended garbage time in Q4.

- The Warriors now have the NBA’s best record at 8-1 through the first 3 weeks. This is a great sign that the Dubs are taking care of the schedule they have had the first few weeks. We have a tough stretch coming up with Hawks, Bulls, and Nets coming up. See you in Week 4.
