The Golden State Warriors updated the injury status of James Wiseman and Klay Thompson on Monday, and confirmed what was always likely to be the case: Wiseman will be ramping up his activities, but unable to fully participate in training camp.
In a press release, the Warriors noted that Wiseman is expected to participate in individual on-court activities and shooting workouts during training camp, but is unlikely to be cleared for full jumping until Oct. 15. The team said that they will figure out after that date when Wiseman will be cleared for full practices.

Oct. 15 is the Warriors fifth and final preseason game of camp, ahead of their Oct. 19 season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. That means that Wiseman will surely miss all of the team’s preseason games, and will likely miss a good chunk of the regular season as well.
It’s just another blow for Wiseman, who has had his fair share of them in his short career. The second-year pro did not have a normal offseason as a rookie due to the pandemic, and then missed his inaugural training camp after contracting the coronavirus (and all this came after playing just three college games).
A wrist injury cost him 11 games during February, before a meniscus injury shut down his season after just 39 games played, cost him another offseason, and now looks primed to cost him a second training camp as well.
The Warriors didn’t reveal much in their update of Thompson, who is rehabbing a torn Achilles that he damaged while getting back on the court following a torn ACL. Like Wiseman, Thompson is expected to participate in some individuals drills during training camp, and the team will provide an update on his ability to return to full practices somewhere down the road.
With the Warriors currently having an open roster spot, plus these two injuries, they’re set to open training camp with just 12 healthy players on guaranteed contracts. They will, however, have some camp bodies (including Mychal Mulder and Gary Payton II), as well as two-way contract signee Chris Chiozza.
