Andre Iguodala was officially introduced as a Golden State Warriors Thursday afternoon. I posted some of the notable stuff he said.

Andre Iguodala sat down for about a half-hour press conference to be officially named as a Golden State Warrior, but what he had to say was said days before. As we all now know, Iguodala spurned offers from other teams, one more year from Denver and more money from Sacramento, to sign a 4 year-$48 million contract with Bob Myers and the Dubs.

Some highlights (all words are paraphrased unless stated otherwise with a quote):

Bob Myers is sporting a beard I wish I could grow: scraggly, unshaven and looking like a person who hasn't slept in weeks.

Myers didn't think this was going to happen on Wednesday night before the trade went down. But Iguodala's agent didn't let him give up. About 50 phone calls and 9 hours later, it was possible. Spent 14-15 hours on July 4th talking to Iguodala's agent to get it done.

Myers: "Andre wanted to play for us. Hardest thing I've ever done in the NBA. It was on lIfe support 15 times." Talks about how Iguodala is second only to LeBron at finishing at the rim, great person, community-drive man, well-respected, and ultimately, the "missing piece" to the team.

Andre Iguodala on what he learned about the Warriors in the postseason: Fed off the crowd even though he was on the opposing team. Recognized that the Warriors were the only team that gave the Spurs trouble in the playoffs.

Iguodala then tells a story about a young Harrison Barnes that didn't recognize who Iguodala was at a shootaround. Barnes' mom had to tell him who Iguodala was when he said he was an agent. Calls Barnes a goofball and a hard worker.

Singles out Klay Thompson as a great shooter, David Lee and Andrew Bogut as two high-IQ big men, and Stephen Curry as the second coming of Jesus Christ, the most loved man on Earth.

Iguodala: I have a dry sense of humor. My favorite shows are Curb Your Enthusiasm and Big Bang Theory.

Iguodala goes on to talk about his impact on the game and how the box score numbers don't accurately indicate how he plays. States that the team can go big or small with no problems.

"I can play defense in my sleep". "Looking forward to a lot of 12-11-11 nights". Sounds pretty good.

More from Myers, who seemed incredibly excited about the addition of Iguodala on its face level but also what it meant for the organization: I didn't have to sell Iguodala on anything. It's great to sit across from an elite player with many options and to hear him say you are part of an organization that he wants to be apart of. Huge transcendent moment in organization.

Iguodala winds down the press conference by telling a story how he, Curry and Kevin Durant worked out every night during the 2010 FIBA Tournament overseas.

"I know these guys too well. I don't know why" - Iguodala.

In conclusion, Andre Iguodala appears to be a great pickup in the short and long-term. Though this is the first time a star player has chosen to come to the Warriors out of his own free will, it appears it won't be the last. This press conference also reinforced the fact that he appears to be a very self-aware person: talking at length about the core of the team, and how he took into account off-court (business ventures) and on-court measures to choose this team.

And don't discount what Iguodala said at the end of the interview about his hangouts with Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry. Isn't that how the Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh thing started?

Steve Aschburner, NBA.com: Andre Iguodala will help Golden State tremendously, and my hunch is it will show via an exciting regular season, a top-four seed in the West and a strong postseason run of two, maybe three rounds. Jarrett Jack played well for the Warriors last season but Iguodala can help facilitate their offense, too, without Jack’s occasional ball domination. And Iguodala can defend the league’s most dangerous wings, especially with the bonus motivation he’ll have from that contract-reneging thing Sacramento did last week.

Fran Blinebury, NBA.com: Toss a coin: Doc Rivers to the Clippers or Andre Iguodala to the Warriors.

Jeff Caplan, NBA.com: Andre Iguodala with Golden State. For the same reasons Denver loved him last season, Mark Jackson and the Warriors will love his experience on a young club, plus his size and rugged defending on the perimeter, a big-time need. Golden State ranked in the bottom half in the league last season giving up more than 100 points a game. Also, Iguodala really improved his 3-point shooting with the Nuggets as the season wore on and if that continues in Golden State then look out.

We didn't win the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, but we did win a nice consolation prize in the form of Andre Iguodala. Good defender, nice scorer, good attitude - he'll fit right in. Yup, nice consolation prize... or maybe... that was Bob Myers' plan all along! Draw everyone's attention to Howard while they sneak in and steal Iguodala from everybody else. Clever (if true)!

The signing of Andre Iguodala was made official today in a 3 team trade. Here's what happened today:

The Nuggets signed and traded Iguodala to us.

We sent the 2018 2nd round pick to the Nuggets.

The Jazz sent Kevin Murphy to us.

We sent Tank Commander Andris Biedrins, Tank Lieutenant Richard Jefferson, and we-wish-you-weren't-injured Brandon Rush to the Jazz. We also sent 4 picks - 2014 1st round, 2016 2nd round, 2017 1st round, 2017 2nd round - and some $$$.

The Jazz signed and traded Randy Foye to the Nuggets.

The Nuggets sent their 2018 2nd round pick to the Jazz.

I suffered some dizzy spells trying to keep this all straight.

What it boils down to is that we dumped our dead weight (yay!), gave away a bunch of picks (gamble!), and got back a really nice player (yay!). Here's the full press release:

warriors.com: Warriors Acquire Andre Iguodala from Denver Nuggets as Part of Three-Team Trade

Now that we have Iguodala, he has two things he needs to do. The first thing is to talk to us. There will be a live press conference later today (Thur, July 11) at noon. Links will be available at warriors.com some time before noon. We'll post them up when we find them. Also, I assume CSN and the Warriors will post the press conference online later in the day. I'll post those as well.

Enjoy!

I said there were TWO things Iguodala needs to do now that he's with us. So what's the second thing? Look here at his career stats:

Andre Iguodala Career Stats at Yahoo

Now look at his free throw percentage over the last few seasons. Not good.

So the second thing he needs to do is practice, practice, practice those free throws! He doesn't want Rick Barry appearing on the radio talking about teaching the underhanded free throw to him.

RJ Nets no more. | Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

The Richard Jefferson era is over- at least in the Bay Area.

This past season Richard Jefferson put up career lows all across the board. He was down in minutes, points, rebounds, and assists.

3.1ppg, 1.5rpg, and 0.6apg in only 10 minutes across 56 games down. I wish I could point to some big playoff outburst from the old vet, but that didn't happen either. Part of me wishes Coach Mark Jackson gave RJ more minutes in the playoffs and less burn to the insanity that is Draymond Green's game, but shoot it's not like it's 2004- or even 2010 for that matter.

I hate to wonder, but will next season with the Utah Jazz be RJ's last in the NBA? If so, I hope people remember the New Jersey Nets RJ and not the one who was somewhat of a bust signing with the San Antonio Spurs or the solution to the Warriors Stephen Jackson 2.0 nightmare.

If you remember, it wasn't too long ago when Jefferson had a legitimate claim to a Big 3 alongside Jason Kidd and Vince Carter. Yes you could even call him a star:

Well if there is a RJ comeback next season it won't be happening in Oakland. You know, I feel quite comfortable with the chances that this doesn't happen in Salt Lake either. Sorry SLC Dunk.

Nate Timmons of Denver Stiffs shares some insights about some of Andre Iguodala's weaknesses and where the Denver Nuggets stand after a somewhat strange start to the offseason.

We're obviously excited about this Andre Iguodala deal and for good reason (or at least 12 reasons as Sleepy so nicely described on Friday).

But it's always nice to have some perspective from the other side of things as we start to imagine what this team will look like. And in this case, there were two lingering questions for me during the weekend.

First, what would Denver want out of a sign-and-trade deal? Second, what things should we be wary of about the 29-year-old wing that the Warriors have signed up for the next four years?

Nate Timmons of SBN's Denver Stiffs was kind enough to offer a few of his insights (and bear in mind that these were answered prior to the announcement of a three-way trade agreement between the Warriors, Nuggets, and Utah Jazz being completed).

Nate Timmons: If they were adding Iguodala with Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry in place still I'd give it an A+. In losing out on Jack and Landry, it's still an A move - easily - but the Warriors will obviously need to shore up the bench a bit.

GSoM: While we're very excited about Iguodala, I see over at Denver Stiffs now (and previously) that there were some frustrations with certain aspects of his game, including how well he is(n't) aging. What sort of things should we be wary of even as we're excited about the prospect of having a wing defender (quite possibly the best this franchise has had in the nearly 40 year post-championship era)?

NT: His turnovers were a concern during games. Even on nights where he looked pretty darn good, he'd have some very frustrating turnovers where he'd drive to the foul line and almost just let go of the ball. He also is incredibly unselfish on offense - to the point that he'll pass up good shots, make a difficult pass, and again lead that to a turnover. I think a lot of that could be credited to Iguodala not liking George Karl's free-flow offense. He spoke last season on numerous occasions about trying to find his comfort zone in the offense and trying to find chemistry with his teammates. He will do better with a more structured system.

His free throw shooting is atrocious. He was much better in the playoffs, but still not a good foul shooter. The 57-percent during the season was quite disturbing though. Watching him work on free throws in practice, he had a nice arc, and seemed to hit shots easily. During games he has a much more pronounced arc on those shots and can't seem to find any consistency.

He's still super athletic and will make more than a handful of players during the season that will dazzle the fans and he's an unbelievable defender. You guys will really appreciate his defensive game and how he is able to just bottle guys up and again make some plays that will blow you away.

GSoM: Denver's offseason has also been a source of frustration for fans and media. And now I know there's some debate about the value of a sign-and-trade with the Warriors involving Iguodala. From your perspective, given the Nuggets' negotiating position, what do you think is a best case outcome for them?

NT: Obtaining assets should always be the priority over potentially helping out another team. Could the Nuggets be helping out the Warriors? Yes. Would not making a deal hurt the Nuggets? Yes.

Denver should make the sign-and-trade deal. If it were me, I would have got in on the Warriors and Jazz deal and asked for Brandon Rush and made the Jazz take back Andre Miller. But that's over, I think, so getting back a TPE and maybe some draft considerations could be useful down the road.

But again, Denver can't worry about what a deal might do for the Warriors, they need to do what is best for their own future.

Editor's note: You can see Timmons' response to what the Nuggets actually did over at Denver Stiffs.

GSoM: I know you spend quite a bit of time around the team and know a bit about the players' personal stories. Any fun facts or quirks about Iguodala that we should know about? (I've already been warned that he doesn't like to be called "Iggy").

NT: I heard about the "Iggy" thing to so I made sure never to call him that (even though it's so much easier to type, so I would type it)! Perhaps it's the time he spent in Philadelphia, but Iguodala is a bit hardened when he talks to larger groups of the media. He's an awesome one-on-one guy to talk with or when he's around media folks he knows a little bit. Just a wealth of hoops knowledge and it's fun to pick his brain.

Last October, Timmons did a Google Hangout with Andre Iguodala and other Nuggets bloggers. Click here to read more about it.

He's a big hamburger fan, so if your fans want to let him know some good spots to eat - he'd appreciate it I bet. I did a Google hangout with him and some other writers and I had a Five-Guys burger with me and ate a bite on the camera when I asked if he'd had lunch yet. Later in the interview we gave him a chance for questions and he asked me if that was a Five-Guys burger that I had with me.

Some other "fun" facts: He's also a horologist, which means he's a watch collector. He's a sharp dresser, he's sponsored by SkullCandy headphones (I talked with him about their headquarters in Park City, Utah where my friend works and where he has visited), and he has quite a bit of ink.

GSoM: What do you make of the Nuggets' offseason thus far, from the firing of Karl to the general inactivity in free agency? Do you see them being able to match their performance of last season or is this looking like a rebuild?

NT: The Karl firing - he's a great man and a knows everything there is about the game and speaks about it well. You guys saw what the Warriors were able to do to the Nuggets in the post-season. We've been seeing that same thing on different levels during seven other playoff series where he was on the bench. It was time for a change. The regular season was nice, but the lack of playoff success lead to the firing.

I think we have a bit of a rebuild on our hands, especially since the Dubs got our best defender and a guy I thought Denver could use to build a "big 3" type thing (I'm more of a team guy, but thought Denver could hold out for an Alpha Dog type guy to pair with Iggy). I'm fine with a re-tooling and I'm excited to see what the future holds in Denver.

If the two teams play in the post-season again, I'll look forward to Denver being the underdog this go-round!

The Golden State Warriors got their man. And it turned out that it wasn't Dwight Howard.

At some point around noon yesterday, the signal-to-noise ratio about Dwight Howard on Twitter got to a point where I didn't even care to keep track any longer.

There was pretty much one thing that seemed consistent, if not officially set in stone (because he didn't schedule a TV show?), in every report about Howard this week: that he'd be announcing his decision on Friday. When that fell apart and it became "sometime this weekend", I just threw up my hands and got ready to move on.

I think I got to this point before DA.

As I went out to get lunch, Andy emailed to mention that the rumors linking the Golden State Warriors to Andre Iguodala were heating up. Having seen reports of the Warriors' interest in using the salary cap room gained from trading away their larger contracts, I responded as follows:

"I'm actually formulating something quick on Iggy right now. I'm sort of hoping for Beans/RJeff to be moved regardless."

Eight minutes later, Andy wrote, "Might be time to get that post up....."

This Iguodala thing had sort of been hovering in the background for the Warriors all week but the anecdote serves as one way to understand how exhilarating yesterday's chain of events was as a long-time Warriors fan: in the course of a week, the Warriors went from being lauded for making it into these discussions about Howard and Iguodala to emerging as a front-runner for Howard to pulling off a trade of two paper weight contracts that allowed them to sign the best perimeter defender in the league last season.

This whole ordeal is no longer just some symbol that the Warriors are earning respect; they ultimately moved from a playoff team to potentially elite (health being a looming limitation) next season with very, very little associated risk. We might not ever actually know how the negotiations with Howard's camp actually went or when exactly they decided to go ahead with making these trades as a means to go after Iguodala instead (which is why I agreed with Andy's point yesterday that Myers never actually went all-out in his pursuit of Howard).

To say I'm ecstatic about this seems to understate the full depth of emotion here - this makes a lifetime of suffering through idiotic or, perhaps even more offensive, plain cheap Warriors moves seem worth it.

Anyway, here's a quick roundup of what happened and what people were saying about it for those that weren't following every twist and turn in real time yesterday.

The Warriors did give up a lot in the deal with the Utah Jazz: Reality is this: the Warriors were never going to pull off a deal like the one they made with the Jazz without giving up something. And if you're looking for the risk in this deal, it lies in giving up draft picks and the opportunity to get more young talent that way.

As happy as we are about removing Biedrins and Jefferson from the Warriors' salary cap, Amar at SB Nation's SLC Dunk also notes that this deal makes the Jazz "...super flexible. What also helps is that we get some picks back." They probably correctly made the calculation that this is not their time and have begun laying the groundwork for the future with cap room and draft picks, albeit likely late draft picks if things play out as Warriors fans imagine.

Iguodala is the type of player you can easily root for, on the court and off: From a purely emotional perspective, I'm almost happier that the Warriors went in this direction instead of landing Howard despite my rational basketball mind telling me to feel at least some disappointment. Don't get me wrong: Howard is obviously one of the most dominant big men of our time and can undoubtedly be a foundational piece for any defense. But he also comes with concerns, that ended up manifesting in his prolonged decision-making process yesterday.

Iguodala, on the other hand, is someone who is just much easier to root for as a hard-nosed, defensive-minded, team-oriented player, as articulated well by Adam Lauridsen:

From a locker-room perspective, Iggy is a player who has already demonstrated his willingness to forgo individual stats in the interest of the team. The Warriors had such good chemistry last year, it’s dangerous to swap in major new pieces. But if anyone will fit, it’ll be Iguodala — particularly given his existing relationship with Stephen Curry. The new addition also values winning. When many of the Nuggets were laughing off their first round loss to the Warriors, Iguodala was somber and frustrated. He joined the Warriors over the Nuggets and the Kings because he believed the team gives him the best opportunity to go deep in the playoffs.

I know it might strike some as weird, but at some level as a fan, having a individuals you can root for on your team is as good if not better than rooting for a collection of guys who you root for in spite of their baggage. And in the long-run, those latter teams don't usually win championships anyway.

Andre Iguodala wants to be in the Bay, presumably not just because he can get paid: I mean, isn't it great to know that the Warriors have become a destination rather than a last resort? As Marcus Thompson reported yesterday, Iguodala has had his eyes on the Warriors for a couple of years now. Again, this is not just some abstract symbol of something: Iguodala adds something the team didn't have before (like, in forever), gives this team a number of lineup options, and had the humility to realize what type of unit he'd have the best chance of success in.

Warriors had to renounce Jarrett Jack to make the deal happen: In order to make yesterday's deals happen, the Warriors had to let go of Jarrett Jack's Bird rights, as described by Thompson: "Golden State had the Bird rights to Jack, which meant they could sign him to a new contract despite being over the cap. But to get under the cap, the Warriors had to waive that right and now Golden State can't afford Jack or Landry."

For those concerned about what losing Jack means to the team, I'd actually suggest that it just adds to the brilliance of going after Iguodala: he can help with, though perhaps not entirely solve, the team's ball handling needs. And for whatever the Warriors lost on the offensive end with Jack's ball handling efficiency, they gain (in spades) on the defensive end (davidgsw's fan post is a good read for more on that).

Houston looking to add Josh Smith: We knew that Smith was somehow tied to Dwight Howard, though there was some inconsistency as to whether he was Plan B or Play A.2. Now that domino is teetering as Houston is looking to him in to pair with Howard.

Howard already making waves in Houston: We'll skip Howard's indecision at the last minute because if someone was dangling millions of dollars in your face to play an extra year of basketball, you'd probably spend some time mulling it over first two. But the drama that seems to follow Howard around has already found its way to Houston as current center Omer Asik has already said he wants out. Kelly Dwyer of Ball Don't Lie has already described all that this deal means for Houston, so head over there to read that. I'll just say I'm happy we don't have that kind of issue to mull over.

Were the Orlando Magic actually the winner in last year's Indecision, Part I: The dominant thinking about the Magic's trade of Howard last season was that they could've done better or, at worst, got fleeced. But Evan Dunlap at SBN's Orlando Pinstriped Post lays out the argument for the exact opposite: that the Magic actually won that deal, with Iguodala leaving the Denver Nuggets for Golden State as part of that reasoning. Of course hindsight is 20/20 - and in fact, the Jazz might even end up the "winners" of their trade with the Warriors depending on how they use that cap room and those draft picks - but right now, it seems like, "...Orlando handily won the four-team trade..." as Dunlap put it.
