Kaiser Permanente Arena will be the site of a game between two first place D-League teams when the West's Santa Cruz Warriors face the East's Canton Charge tonight.
Santa Cruz is coming off a win against the Reno Bighorns last night in which Nemanja Nedovic went down with a hamstring injury in the first half and did not play in the second half as a precautionary measure. Whether he plays tonight is somewhat uncertain at this point.
Andrew Matheson of the Santa Cruz Sentinel reported that Warriors coach Casey Hill has seen Nedovic's presence as a positive for the team thus far this season. Yet statistically, things have sort of been a mixed back since a couple of big performances in his first two games: in back-to-back losses to Bakersfield at the end of 2013, Nedovic shot 8-for-20 (40%), had eight assists to seven turnovers and fouled out of the second game in 26 minutes. He was 2-for-9 prior to his tweaking the hamstring in last night's game.
Aside from Nedovic's assignment and Seth Curry being called up to the Memphis Grizzlies, the story for the Warriors this year seems to be the play of Dewayne Dedmon who has 10 double-doubles in 11 games. Hilton Armstrong is also back in Santa Cruz after the Golden State Warriors released him.
Canton comes to town with a familiar face as well in former Cal guard Jorge Gutierrez, who leads the team in assists with 6.9 per game in addition to 6.2 rebounds and 12.5 points. Gutierrez was with the Brooklyn Nets during training camp prior to the NBA season before returning to the Charge for this second season.
I'll be attending tonight's game for the first time in a while. Feel free to use this as a game thread if you want to watch.
